Correct colours

Post by youngun »

Next weekend im hoping to get the engine out for a strip down, inspection and rebuild. Im also intending to paint it, it is a "gold seal" engine and I intend to restore it to how it would of looked as a "gold seal". So what colour does what have to be as on mine the Rocker cover and Thermostat housing are gold, but does anything else have to be? And what needs to be green and what needs to be black?

Thanks
YG

and all ancilleries (dynamo and starter motor) are black with silver (alloy really) ends. Not sure on the waterpump though as that was cast iron originally, and now alloy.

I think your best bet is to match it up at a paint store. I can't find it on the usual spares sites.

Maybe you can take the rocker cover with you? Or perhaps a tappet chest cover, they seem to last quite well paint wise

Aye, the Rocker cover might as well be perfect, has the transfer on there in perfect condition. So im going to leave it and restore the rest of the engine.
Colour match eh, thanks!

I think it would be your best bet. Make sure it is slightly heat resistant :D
