Timing chain slack

Seeing as the t/chain made a fair racket thought I would replace it using a single row refurb kit. Was rather surprised then when the cover came off to reveal a duplex set.

Chain slack is at least 5/8" - I assume this is too much?

Aye - it does seem rather a lot. Are the sprocket teeth really 'sharp' ?? You could try a new chain - and perhaps a new crankshaft sprocket (does twice the work of the bigger sprocket - so twice the wear) - or just renew the lot!
