why not use mini brakes?

I recently got a nice set of wider wheels.... the PCD is correct, but at 13 inch (with inner lip to add to problem) they just don't quite clear the brake calipers I have on the front (marina)

I'll probably just sell them on and look again for another set of 14 inch

but

I did begin to think.......

why can't we use disc brakes from a mini? they come in 7.5 and 8.5 inch disc (either would be more than enough for a minor) the PCD of the hub should be correct (I think?) and must be loads of genuine as well as high quality parts available, also period to the car.

any thoughts?

Because it's front wheel drive ! The disc mounts on a drive flange which runs in the front wheel bearings - all secured together by the CV joint trapping the bearings in the Mini hub carrier. Completely different arrangement to Minor. Can you not either re-position your existing caliper - or basically take some metal off it ? Or perhaps a thin spacer (say 1/4") would move the wheel out wards sufficiently to clear the caliper ?
