Post by badfelafel »

OK... Minor locked in garage
Keys lost
This is a Minor board... any suggestions?
(Not very clever. House keys and other car keys on same keyring!)

Suggestions for getting into/starting the car? Not hard, but could folk give ideas by PM please, not here? Any 'how tos' will be deleted for obvious reasons.

Ask around for some old keys!
My ignition key opens my Dads garage and has even started another Minor at a local scrapyard. My boot key (different for some reason) used to open a mates landrover.
Old english car locks are far from fussy and garage door locks are frankly useless. Have you tried a lollipop stick and crossed fingers?
What would Macgyver do..?

:) Seems anything will open the petrol cap, so no worries there. Broke into the garage and have fitted a padlock hasp/clasp/some fancy name! So all is well again :)

Just a word of warning, and I don't know why this is the case ,but the majority of new barrels come with only one number, that goes for ignition, doors and boot, rear doors on trav's and LCV's. Not a problem in itself, just that we will all end up with the same key numbers.

So whats the problem if all minors have the same key numbers? lock it up or leave it open, If somebody wants your minor they will take it! and within just a few seconds. :(
Not a very pleasant thought, but it is a fact.

So do you leave your front door open, because its highly likely that you will be burgled ?, Any deterant or stalling of someone trying to steal your car should be encouraged, rather that litterally handing over the key. I agree if they want it then ultimately they will take it. But lets try not to be quite so defeatist. :-?

If someone really wants your car they will take it no matter what security you have in place. Just like if someone wants the conents of your house badly enough they will get in.

All we can do is do our best to secure our belongings and keep our insurance policies up to date!

I like the little sneaky things you can do to stop your car starting.....

That would work! I wouldn't recommend it though, I've got a brain like a sieve first thing in the mornings. Could be nasty.
