red light on

hi, can someone tell me why the red light is on in my morris minor 1000, is says IGN ? before you start, no I am not blonde, and have a sneaky feeling is is something to do with IGNITION!! am i close!!! help. Cannot find the bloody manual when i need it!! and forgive me, a am a new owner :D

It means that the battery isn't being charged. Should go out (or maybe flicker dimly at idle) when the engine is running.

I thanks, it has been raining in north yorkshire, and he has just started not turning over straight away, so thanks for that x

only problem is I took it on the road for 5 miles, and the light was still solid on red?? no flickering??

That one (well, they all are) is VERY off the road :D I do intend to keep the multi coloured look though - I like it
Light still on - I'd better leave that to the 'experts'. AFAIK it DOES mean that the battery isn't charging though, and I don't want to point you in any wrong directions.

Could mean the fan belt has snapped (or v loose) - and the engine is overheating like mad. You need to get this checked out right away. And if it is just 'no charge' - then soon the battery will be flat and you will be stuck. If in the AA - call them out! Otherwise - take it to the local garage.
