Such a pain... Very Slight Speeding and Insurance

I got flashed by one of those lovely speed cameras in Grenoside on the way back from the Barnsley Club event at Elsecar a few weekends back. The nice letter i got confirms i was doing 36mph in the 30zone which is good news in that my speedo is calibrated correctly (only sort of realised i was a little over when the flashes came ) but bad news in that i will be paying £10 per mile over (not good value for money) and i get a little addition on my licence from the lovely south Yorkshire police (who haven't caught the people who stole two well locked up bikes, my girlfriend's laptop from her double deadlocked house, my university friends wallet, phone etc after being mugged and the person who keeps stealing useful bits of metal from my back yard)... must stop the polite rant...

I'm rather worried about the effect of the three points I now have on my insurance I'm with Footman James and although next time i renew i will be reaching the ripe old age of 25 (which is the age everyone becomes the amazing drivers). I'm really hoping it wont go up too much? and how long do they last for?

Has any one had similar points with classic insurance

ps This is not an excuse - I was concentrating rather too heavily on keeping the car going, as it had no go and was overheating. This I later found out was due to a burnt out exhaust valve on number 2, so 36mph on 3 cylinders is probably quite an achievement. I just hope its a good photo when i get it

My son in law was caught on the a303. We saw 3 very nice pics of him doing 88 mph on a dual carriageway. Cost him his licence!

88 in a 70 wouldnt normally cost you your liscence unless you already had points?

A mate got caught on the A303 doing about 88 when driving back to London, he got 3 points and £60 from a fixed penalty. I think he got caught by one of those delightful vans which was rather conveniently tucked behind some greenery.

Edit: If it's your first offence then most insurance companies won't care at all. A relative got nabbed and the insurance company basically didn't want to know! Some don't even care about 6 points anymore as plenty of perfectly safe drivers have that many due to the proliferation of speed cameras.

I've never found any problems with 3 points - I got those from speeding on a dual carriageway... 4.5 years ago.
Pretty soon I won't even have to mention them

I'm rather ashamed of being caught doing 92.5mph on the M69 whilst overtaking someone in the middle lane on a deserted motorway - I didn't even see the Police Volvo in my rear view mirror

The very nice policeman said he only pulled me for fear that I would go over 100mph and face a ban. Luckily I escaped with 3 points and £60 fine. It happened to be the third anniversary of my last speeding fine - on both occasions I was in a rush to see my sister in Leicester on her birthday.

Needless to say - i just post a card these days!

I had a look for online pictures but being the North they haven't quite got that far yet. Although i did find the South Yorkshire Safety Camera Partnership site (nice to see where my money goes) the camera that caught me (Sheffield A61 Grenoside) measures an average speed of 33.2 in the 30 zone and 17.5% of drivers exceed the limit... so its not only me

Furrtiv - my 92.5mph wasn't in my moggie!! I've only driven her round the block so far. I was in my old Peugeot 405 estate which is still going strong - it towed my moggie from Leicester to Coventry on a 600kg trailer!

i got pulled over in the pickup at 4 in the morning going down the m6
to a show .
i was blasting along some what over 70 when i came up on a car going
slow well as soon as i puled out to pass him i saw why he was. right in front of him was a traffic car and i had no choice but to keep going and blast on past , it took them over 2 miles to put the blues on and pull me in .

but they where cool just wanted to see what it was and when they found out it was a 68 morris pickup they had a laugh about the speed and no one at the station would believe them that we passed them doing over 80
any ways got off with a warning and wished us well on the rest of our journey
i think we where going to leeds . done the show and drove back up the road
all 270+ miles with no problems . 495 miles all in the one day ....

England has changed since I left in 1959.
Driving was fun then,There are some cameras
at stop lights here.but very few.
Everyone drives way over the limit.Its like a race track
onthe freeways.But I supose we will get the same
big brother stuff as you.

Although the DVLA count points for 3 years they won't be removed for 4 years. Insurance companies have their own rules- they keep them noted for 5 years!
It is just as well insurance companies don't bother about 3 or even 6 points but they do insist on you telling them!
