Does anyone know who supplies new or recon Pre'53 (series II) front wheel brake cylinders?

Or you can change the backplates from the later 7" models frontbrakes, so you can use the later front wheel brake cylinders.
I did that on my 1949 and 1950 model, and this works fine.

I know that in Australia you can have a stainless insert fittet in your wheel cylinders, and use the normal repair kit. I have no idea if anyone in Europe make this ???

So this still works with the older combined hub and drum then, so you can retain the early wheels with the differnt stud spacing? Thtas well worth knowing if it works. How many people will look at your backplates anyway...

Very common - although many will have thrown them away as they upgrade to the later 8" drums which work very much better, but are not an option for you.

Jep - this works very well, has driven with this for years now.
7" front backplates should not be difficult to find.

I also modify the stubaxel on the swivel pin to take the early hubs / bearings and drums, so I can keep my early wheels - this has also worked fine for years now.

so for all those people who are upgrading to 8" backplates and have the later type of series 2 backplates......pleeeeaaaase do not throw them away!!! Make my life easier and send me a PM, your efforts shall be rewarded....tanx

I only have Mini 7" backplates which could probably be adapted to fit but would be very much less original!

I have a pair of backplates in 7" if you need them.
