We have just recently bought a police car see photos
http://www.mildred-the-minor.co.uk/policecar.html
and was wondering if anyone can help me on this matter.
I need to find out what sort of aerial would have been fitted for the police radio (which I have) and where would it have gone (on the boot perhaps)
Also does anyone have a photo of 1 and any idea where I could get one?
Thanx Jay

Short little one centre front of roof. Try printing the pic and asking at maplins/local CB shop.

It's about 3 inches high, rubber coated and about an inch and a half at the bottom, reducing about halfway up to about 3/8" stubby. You could also try the mobile phone arials as some of those are quite similar.

It's not quite that simple: Need to know which radio was fitted, and in which constbulary the vehicle saw service; and if a large force, then at which garage it was equipped. There is no such thing as a standard Police car, as one police fitter explained it when we researched the join between white and blue paint "it all depends who was doing the masking that morning". With the aerials, different characteristics were required for different areas.
That blue light loooks a tad modern, so I'd say just get an aerial that looks OK.
Please make sure that you get in contact with the ex-police register (see Minor Matters). There is a prize for best police car at the National. Look forward to seeing you around.

See you at the National.

"No standard specification" - different needs for different areas, including no radio in the car, some forces were experimenting with personal radios carried by the officers, others relied on the telephone. That's a lovely picture, Lynda. We'll be in one of the Travellers this year but have the Panda at the 2008 National - like to ring the changes.

I took my other car to last year's National, so it's the Panda's turn this time!
Here's the full version of the pic - I'd love to go to Devon sometime and take a photo of my car in the same spot now

We have a picture of ours on the Parade Ground in Cardiff in 1968. Went back there to take the same picture two years ago - it's now a dual carriageway !
