im missing a small part from my carb

Post by davidmayo »

hi, im 16 and im doing up and old angine ive got bought. its in farly good condition and has good spark. the engine is from an old split screen 1950s 2 door but i dont know the exact date but i presume its a series 2, it has the big round air filter on top.

well i couldnt get it to go so i took the carb off for a clean but i noticed there is a small screw in peice missing and i presume this must be why it wont start. but the problem is i dont know what that part is.

where its supposed to be there is a threaded hole, about 8mm diameter and at the bottom of the hole there is a very small hole going into the carb

anyone know what im missing, but have a look at these pictures.
i hope you can make out what hole i am tanking about

as you can see in the pictures i have removed the oil suction chamber bit and the peice with the float in it.

thanks, david

Hi David

This is where the vacuum pipe from the distributor screws in. I don't think you can get it new with the early screw fitting now - (later ones used a push fit) - ESM sell the later one

Its a case of looking for a 2nd hand one.

Hey, David- you planning to fit the engine to a car? Just wondered, I'm fifteen and I have a '59 two-door, it's always fun to find younger Morris owners around...

if it is the vacuum advance, just block it off and see if the engine will start...
