Hi
My partner has just bought a 'modified' traveller and sold his 'modern Rover' so the Morris Minor is the only means of transport in this house(I have 'Poppy' a 1968 saloon)!
I know some people don't like to alter vehicles but in order to keep up with modern traffic when you are going to use a 'Moggie' as your only means of transport we havedeemed it a neccesity.
The problem with the latest addition (The Vanilla Pod) is with the gear box. She has been fitted with a 1300 Ital engine and and a 1275 MG gear box. From cold, first thing in the morning she goes out of 1st gear fine but after that and for the rest of the day she has a terrible judder. Reverse isn't too popular either. We wondered if it could be oil on the plate but without taking it apart there is no obvious sign of leakage.
Has anybody else suffered from a similar problem? If so can you advise?
Thanks
Liz

Could be engine mountings/engine steady bar/gearbox mounts/gearbox security cable/clutch plate disintegration/clutch plate contamination - or even prop shaft/rear axle problem. Is there any sign of oil leaking out of the clutch housing - dripping from the split-pin in the hole at the bottom ? Also possible to look inside the bellhousing if you pop out the rubber bungs and use a small bright torch - is there oil in there ? Mounts etc are just physical check. First thing in morning ok - don't understand that but could well point to oil contamination problem. What happens if you rev up in 4th gear and drop the clutch - does it slip or stall ?

Liz,

Have you checked to see if the gearbox steady cable is fitted and adjusted correctly? It should be only just under tension without the engine running or the clutch being operated.
