Hi,
I have recently been given a Morris by my nan and i need to know the year model of it. Engine numbers etc are as follows.

Type: FCF51
CAR NUMBER: 374114/53787
ENGINE NUMBER: F4/225644
and its original color is Champagne/Ivory

if anyone is able to help me i would be extremely grateful

The chassis no says :-

F - Morris Minor
C - Convertible
F - Sandy Beige Colour
5 - RHD - Completely Knocked Down (assembly overseas)
1 - Synthetic Paint

Car No puts it approx late 1955 making it a Series 11 Model

Rog, I agree re the first part of his quoted chassis number but what does the following '53787' denote?

Not sure Willie - possibly a body no ? or did the CKD cars have their own numbers ?

i think thats refering to the body certainly the right format.

but can you explain further what the C-Convertible means?

as its surely not a convertible to my understanding?

(oh, and im female)

If you look at the picture of Willie's car above, that's a convertible. Also if it's a series II then the front windscreen would be made of two pieces of glass with a vertical metal strip splitting it down the middle.

sorry, i do know what a convertible is...........and yes my morrie does have a split screen.

but it is certainly not a convertible.

thats what i am wondering...........why does it have a C for convertible...when it isnt one???????

0h dear sounds then that youve got a chassis plate of another car or the plate has been replaced at some point and stamped incorectly, or you may have read it wrong?

Strange!!!!!!!!

The fact that it is marked as a CKD car means that it was exported as a kit in a crate! So it started life abroad somewhere. If it WAS ever a convertible! it would have curved plates to the left and right ends of the bottom of the dashboard where it joins the A pillars. ( it would be rather unusual to find a convertible which had been converted into a saloon).
Are you,by any chance, in a foreign country?

Yes by jove. I am in Australia. Does that explain it?

And for sure the stamp says FCF51
and all the other numbers i quoted were correct.

And i had someone recently say to me that it appears to be a 56' model

So for sure i am now really confused
Can anyone help clarify what appears to be muddy waters?

Oh and by the way. It does have the curved pieces at the end of the dash on both the left and the right.

can't believe that someone has welded a roof onto a convertable,unless the hood and frame was unavailable in australia when the car was put together. VERY STRANGE.

I was told by a friend that the year model is always on the regulator. so i checked that and it says 8 55 so im guessing that its definately a 55 model.

But may not have been assembled/put on the road until 56!

BUT IF IT WAS ASSEMBLED IN "56" BUT MADE IN "55" DOES THTA MAKE IT A 55 OR A 56 MODEL?

A 55 as that was when it was produced.

Well, that's a first! Someone has added a permanent roof to a convertible. When it was MADE denotes the year i.e. a car made in the year before seat belts became compulsory does not have to have them fitted even if it wasn't registered until after the law changed. A car made
or in your case ,packed into a kit of parts, in say 1955 will have the 1955
fittings and none of the modifications which were added in 1956.

Wow, a convertible with a roof.
That'll make for a very good car I'd imagine as it'll have all the strengthening AND a roof. Should be nice and rigid and also paves the way for you to cut off the roof in future without any worries.
(assuming your vehicle laws allow such a modification).
