With coils is it a case that they either work or they dont?

My car lately, I am having real trouble starting. while starting it sort catches then dies. Once started its fine.

Is it possible to have a weak spark?

I did clean and adjust, the points and plugs but still the same.

try the condenser, if its a weak spark.

Do as STEVEY suggests but, with coils they are more likely to work ok when cold and fail when they warm up. Your symptoms sound very much like fuel mixture problems.
