cheaper alternative to hammeritte

Post by steve4063 »

i've just used machine mart's own version of hammeritte and must say its pretty good stuff.

i'm always after a bargain  and i found it pretty good slightly dif texture to normal a little more thicker and the silver was good a s well for the wheels its brought them up lovely.

one downside tho i've painted all inside the floor with it and it STINKS i had all the doors open and i've still got a headache 8)

but generally good stuff

ANOTHER CHEAP Hammerite alternative- Chassis Black paint from Brown brothers/ unipart. Its branded "bodyline". You can get 5L for under £20. It goes on nicely and is designed for vehicle use, which the Hammerite paints are not.
Cheers John - all comments IMHO

Hammerite is ghastly stuff. I fell out of love with it a long time ago its cack.

Hammerite dries too brittle and the water gets behind it. Its worse than underseal and its too thick and goes off to quickly for coach painting jobs.

Repaint and Japlac are the only ones I'd consider now. Anything underneath just gets generic chassis black or other generic bitumen-esque paint or even hammerite underbody seal which is the eception in the Hammerite range in that its actually good.
What would Macgyver do..?

I'm currently trying to find the motivation to carry on stripping underseal and repainting, and now have a pricey tin of supposedly marine zinc primer (Teamac, and it certainly feels prety zinc richwhen you pick it up!) to go on under the chassis black.

The only thing I've found Hammerite to be any good at sticking to is... Carpet.

It's pretty difficult to get off your skin and out of your hair too.
