Seat covers
Can anyone tell me how difficult it is to fit new covers to the drivers seat on a two door?

First things first, but not necessarily in that order.

It is all fairly straightforward, certainly with the later seats.
Roger Rust has done his recently, maybe he can give some actually helpful advice...

Can I ask a seat related question, but not technically related to this thread. The seats I have in my car are sometimes covered in a white sort of mildew like stuff. It easily wipes off when I clean it with assorted kitchen products, but seems to keep coming back. I can never get the door cards clean and they always appear white or seats.
Anyone any ideas first of all what it is and secodly how to get rid of it premanently ??

I've recovered the driver's seat and, as has been said, it's pretty straightforward. Replacing the straps is the hardest bit, though they're easier to get at on the back than on the base. The back does seem to have old-fashioned rubberised horsehair in it which crumbles a bit and makes a bit of a mess so get the hoover out. Also if there's not a polythene cover over that once you take the vinyl cover off then it'll be a pain sliding the new one on (I imagine) so you may want to improvise with bin bags or the like.

Many thanks, I'll bear these tips in mind.
Just one more question: I know you can't tell the condition under the covers until you take them off, but is there anything obvious I need to order along with the covers?

It sounds like its being caused by excessive moisture / condensation have you checked underneath the carpets to make sure that the floor is nice and dry.The seats I have in my car are sometimes covered in a white sort of mildew like stuff.
Anyone any ideas first of all what it is
Cheers

I have. The old soundproofing stuff in probably well past it and a little bit damp I think. I plan to completly strip the inside this weekend to wire brush the floors and give them a coat of paint and seal before putting the carpets back. At the same time I was thinking of throwing the old under matting way and replacing them with some underlay or old carpets or something.floor is nice and dry

I'd order enough straps to do the back and the base - it'll feel much more comfy afterwards as they seem to go soggy after a few years. You don't have to remove the base's cover to replace the straps but it's a lot easier to get at them if you do. You could look underneath to see if the foam is still OK too -if it's crumbly or the straps have cut into it then replace it as well.iddy wrote:I know you can't tell the condition under the covers until you take them off, but is there anything obvious I need to order along with the covers?

There are some pics in the Sophies Progress thread in General Discussion. I found it very easy do the seat first then the sqab (seatback) the little clips do a good job . The manufactuer suggested I cver the edges with strips cut from the plastic bag the cover came in to make it easier to slip the cover on.
