Anyone help me with a link of a pic of what the underside of a Traveler looks like ?
I know what my saloon looks like and have a scrap van chassis down the garden but have no idea how a Traveler rear metalwork is constructed.

Its very simmilar to the 2-door saloon lay out. Except the outer floor edge "sill" panel behind the B-pillar is flat and screws into the base rail of the wood- wheras on the saloon its a shallow channel shaped piece like the front outer sill panel.
The B post is different on the traveller as the back of it is wooden!
The boot floor is also slightly different, but other than that having welded both my traveller and the current convertible project they are remarkably simmilar.
The inner rear wings are the same, but where the saloon has a flange to bolt the outer rear wing onto- the traveller has a different "curved t piece" panel that the ali panels and wood wheel arches screw into, the outer wing screws into the wooden wheel arch on the traveller.

I have no plans but as a theoretical exercise I reckon that it'd be possible to convert a saloon into a Traveller during a full restoration just like you can make a tourer out of a saloon.
I know people will say " it'd be easier to buy a Traveller and restore that " - but like I say it's theroretical.

Thats been done- extreemly well by Gary Beezer from Kent. He made a superb split screen V8 traveller from a split screen 2- door saloon.
I wouldn't try it with a 4-door saloon though!

but you can make a van or pick up from a 4 door... but due to needing to cut away a lot of structure to add a chassis, it might be even more work than making a traveller from a 2dr saloon!I wouldn't try it with a 4-door saloon though!
