Hey guys,

I've been rying to work out if bumper over riders and wing mirrors would have been on my 1969 2 door originally and if so what shape the wing mirrors were to. I've seen the rectangular and the round and also some with no mirrors which, i think, is possible for the year isn't it?.

As much as I'm inclined to keep the car as original as possible I am tempted to go for door mirrors as they must be more useful.

If the car didn't have them originally i won't feel so bad putting them on the doors

overriders yes, as for wing mirrors any shape you want, both round and desmo wing mirrors were offered as an optional extra.

Ah, so some would have had none but the option was there? What are they like on the wings, do people find them adequate?

Adequate for decoration, but not a great deal else in my experience

A door type mirror is more useful in my opinion and there are some types available which could be fitted to the metal corner section of the quarter lights to avoid drilling the doors. If you do settle for the door type
have a careful dummy run to ensure that it is in the correct place for you before you drill any holes A far greater field of view is given by the convex mirrors but they seem hard to find.

Wing and door mirrors are adequate for decoration..finding the use of the door mirror more practical....but also, either/both are better than having none!! (IMO)

I've never found wing mirrors to be useful for anything other than decoration, or for creating injuries when trying to squeeze past a Minor in a tight garage.
Door mirrors (prefferably on the little triangle piece next to the touchglass) can be very useful indeed!

Funnily enough I get on really rather well with the wing mirrors on my Mog; the Desmo mirrors I've got seem to have slightly longer stalks than some other people's, but once I'd got the position right they work fine and seem really rather effective. And I rather like them being permanently in my vision.

Of course, if they get knocked and you don't notice before you drive off then you're in a world of no-mirrors, and when it's icy or raining they can be a bit of a useless ornament. But hey, they look pretty.

I have to agree with Kate regarding wing mirrors, I can see through both of mine perfectly, having said that I didn't used to be able to until I replaced the seat webbing last year, so maybe those who can't see in them should maybe check their seats .... just a thought

Mal, I totally agree with you there.... since I renewed the webbing in both front seats...I too can now see out of my wing mirrors

I better check mine too as can't see a thing in my mirrors

Just had a chuckle to myself.... imagining all the Moggy owners out checking their seats whatever next

I had to renew mine...my bum was getting sore, rubbing on the floor.

The other use for a wing mirror is to show the driver where the edge of the nearside wing is!

There was a time when most Minors had a little dent in the front n/s wing.

mine don't reach the edge of the wing - maybe that explains all the dents ;-)

my wing mirrors on the wings are fine, but im big and can sort of see over the hump in the bonnet to teh nearside mirror. My brothers has a door mirror, but i dont like it its too close. Just personal preference, what ever your comfortable with.

hey how about that! I too replaced my seat elastics and now my mirrors are in the right place, thank you from my bottom. Rick in Abbotsford

Panda cars weren't fitted with overriders! Though some had wing mirrors...

I thought overriders were factory fitted on "Deluxe" spec. cars only? (chassis number starting MA?/5D... the "D" being Deluxe spec.)

Don't know about the wing mirrors, although having been alive at the time, I seem to remember wing mirrors were a bit flashy, so maybe they were part of the "Deluxe" thing too?

As for seeing in them, it depends what you are looking for. Wing mirrors are more in your normal field of view all the time while driving, whereas you have to divert your eyes quite a long way to look properly in a door mirror. On the other hand, you don't get as big an image of what's going on, because the wing mirrors aren't much bigger than door mirrors, and they are a lot further away.

Wing mirrors are more in keeping with the "period" of the car.

Maybe wing mirrors for the look and a single driver's door mirror for looking would be the best combination?

AFAIR, wing mirrors were a dealer option, never factory fitted.
