Alternative airfilter
Has anyone fitted a different type of airfilter for a hif 44 carb fitted to a 1275 engine, at the moment I have a K&N type fitted but the din from the carb is terrible, so I wondered if there was a silencer type which would fit. Have one from a MG metro but is to big and hits the bulkhead.
I have recently fitted a quieter option to my motor. The air filter housing comes from a Morris 1800. It is internally baffled and is as quiet as a std Minor one. It breathes a lot better too. There is a K+N element, E-3260, that fits in this housing. It is close to the shock but doesn't hit. I included a photo of the setup it replaced that also breathed well but was a bit noisier.

If you look at the third photo in my earlier post the aluminium elbow is a Marina one. The black plastic bit came from, I think, a Pugeot 206.
The clearance between the shock and housing is about a finger thickness with a 1½" carb and Minispares water heated manifold. There is a thinner carb to manifold spacer available that would give some more clearance too.
Another point is that the housing came off a car with a 1¾" carb so you will not have to adapt it to fit as I did.
