Car Reg and Log Books

Post by flymike »

Hi There

i'm restoring a 2 Door 1968. it's my first restro project, so far i've spent 8 weeks welding it and i'm almost finished (welding it that is) all i've got to do is re-do the first two weeks worth and i'm about there.!! :-?

anyway my question is this..

what is there to stop me buying another car or log book and using the reg number from it on my car..??

the only reason for this is that the number plate i have is 3 letters- 3 numbers- and then another letter and its a bit naf..!

ideally would like to put a 3 letter and 3 number plate on it..

is this possible....legal...moral...etc

and if i can be done does anyone have a more interesting reg/log book for sale..??

cheers

It's known as 'ringing', and is very illegal, that's what :)

Probably wise :D The legal way is to but a car with the number you want and transfer it...

I think you can buy dateless numbers from the personalised registration brokers but it probably won't be cheap.

ISTR somebody on here saying you can't transfer a number from a scrapper; the car has to have been recently taxed.

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

My advice is, stick with the cars original registration number...keep your Minor as original as possible, even down to its reg number :D

Bet you're going to tell me now, you are going to stick a V8 in it

some of my friends want me to rod it. 8) ..but no i'm going to keep it original apart from the yellow spray job... i was going to chop the roof off at one point but have decided not too....too much like hard work and far too much expense involved....basically doing the minor as a they are cheap to restore and my grandad had one. also to see if i can do it.

since i've been doing the minor i have found that a bloke in my village has a convertible..it's in quite bad shape as it's been stored outside..the reg is r** 98 ...it's not moved for 12 years..!!! it would be a major resto project but a very rewarding one....anyone got any idea how much it would be worth in this condition..?? it's bad ie nothing left of the front chassis rails but it is complete.

cheers

to be honest - a Minor is a Minor and having a pre-62 plate on a post 62 Minor isn't going to improve it - more likely is some Minor nerd will come up to you and tell you that your car is a ringer ;-)

A rotten convertible is 'worth' very little unless it has some rewarding features, however it can be sold for more than it's worth, as people sometimes do naughty things with logbooks.
