I am just having a go at wiring in a smiths "battery condition" gauge. I have tested it aross the battery and the needle goes up to about 12 - 13v. My question is...do I wire this gauge directly to the battery so that it is on perminantly or do the leads need to connect somewhere else so that the gaugee only comes on when the ignition is on??

Many thanks!

It should go to a switched live connection so that it only comes on with the ignition, otherwise it'll slowly drain the battery when the engine is off.

Connect one side permanently to chassis and the other side to the fuse contact which the dark green wires on it. This is only live when the ignition is on. These same dark green wires appear on one side of the
voltage stabiliser unit at the rear of the speedometer which may be easier for you.
