stronger torsion bar

Please give me some advice on the problem of my morris minor suspension.

My minor was lowered down using standard torsion bar and a little strong lever arm standard shock absorber. It is resulted in weak spring rate and short suspension stroke. It is not good for rough road.I would like to have stronger torsion bars.If possible, I hope to have one of 50% stronger than standard one. I am looking for them, but I can not find now. Can you find it?

I dont like to put gas-shock absorber in morris minor.

You can trim the suspension, i.e. make it a higher ride, by adjusting the vernier adjuster plate position at the crossmember. If not enough adjustment is available, you can move the adjusting arm 1 spline on the torsion bar. I believe that 1 spline equates to 1 1/4" increase in height.

Hi sorry to hijack this thread but can you adjust the torsion bars with vernier plate without dismantling the suspension?

perford,
Try here: http://www.morrisminor.co.uk/index.htm

Part number SUS111A/B/C. Other suppliers may do them, its just that their back page ad on Minor Matters was in front of me!

Jeff,
You can adjust it without fully dismantling the front suspension, but you MUST disconnect the top swivel from the shocker and let the pressure off the torsion bar to avoid the bar springing up and catching your fingers! :o

Perford - stronger torsion bar is NOT the way to go unless you are going Racing ? Just raise the car slightly on the suspension and improve the dampers - add telescopics if possible AND keep the original lever arm units in operation too. This gives a very smooth ride with excellent damping.

Jeff - it's actually easier to move the front suspension arm for height adjustment - and this can certainly be done without major dismantling - I used to do it at the start of Rallies if word went round that there would be a lot of 'white' roads - about 15 mins each side. Snag of course is that the adjustment is in steps of just over 1 inch, so it's not for 'fine tuning'.
