12 inches on the front

Post by NZJLY »

A question for all you Moggie fans.
I am assembling my project ute
1200 Datsun motor and box. Mitsubishi Celeste diff (we had one) with a 113.3 stud pattern:o
On the front I am going to put marina discs (again we have them). I have just picked up some ford escort 12 inch tires (I got 2 near new tires and rims and a spare for $1.50 (0.56 pounds in English money) http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... d=95082588
Why? - because they were cheap. :D :D :D

They are almost a perfect fit onto the marina stubs, and would be easy to get them drilled out to fit. Has anyone fitted 12 inch rims on the front, and 13's on the back? If so what was the opinion on it.

I am resigned to having 2 spares, as I don't think I can get the marina stubs drilled out to a 113.3

Thanks all

If you wanted some other options these, ( http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 632223.htm ) might be one idea. At least you would be able to have the same PCD all round and only have to have one spare.
How would the ground clearance work out on the front especially with the Datsun sump being lower?

I'll tell you when I have fitted the motor :)

Thanks for the link, the trouble is I will still need fairly narrow tires so they wont rub on the trunions (and wear off my nice new paint), so there is still going to be a difference between front and back even with the same PCD. My panel work skills are probably not good enough to flare the front guards :( - maybe my next project :):):)
