Replacing front window channel seals

Haynes manual indicates that replacing front window channel seals is straightforward because they are using the old type window channels that were solid, Replacements from ESM etc are very bendy and cannot be slid down the channel with the window in situ.

Rather than take the whole top frame off is it possible to remove the rear verticle channel so I can move the window back far enough to give access to the front channel?

Thanks, John

My vertical window channels have always been of the floppy felt type.
The old ones just pulled out upwards and I found that I could push the new ones a good few inches down past the glass, then raise the window a few inches and whilst lowering it again with a screwdriver pushing the new felt, it would slide further down the channel along with the glass. This continues for most of the job but, invariably, the last few inches will stick. The door card has to be removed so that the felt can be pulled down to its final position from the bottom end. The window will be very tight for a while but soon beds in.
