Will the early long stick gearbox match with a 1098 engine?

I want to keep the 803 gearbox in my SII but dont have an 803 engine, have several 1098s and want to get the car on the road.

What about clutch?

Or, will the rear casting of the 803 box fit onto the 1098 box?

Suggestions please!

I suspect you can if you really want to but would advise against it. The 803 gearbox is week and I assume would not last long.

It is no big deal to change the gearbox cover in the floor and use a later gearbox with the remote change, and will probalby be more of a pleasure to drive too.

What diff do you have?

Need to use the 803 flywheel and clutch - it will work - but for how long is another matter! If you drive carefully - especially in first and reverse - it should be fine.

I'd also advise against it - the gearbox ratios are poor, but the main problem is the lack of strength.
There are 2 alternatives:
1) Use the 1098 gearbox and modify the floor + use 1098 gearbox floor cover
2) Modify a 1098 gearbox by removing the lever extension and fitting the 803 lever (needs a bit of technical ability but it's not rocket science)

Option 2 keeps the car looking far more original, although most people use option 1, which is much more simple.

Aye - option 2 is the way to go if you have a 1098 box to modify?

Thanks for your input, I like the idea of using the 1098 box and the 803 stick.

Can someone warn me of any problems please. I'm quite capable with a spanner, does the remote just come off and the stick bolt on?

Thanks
