Timing cover oil seal

Anyone know how to renew it? The one in the engine I'm rebuilding was torn, so I pulled it out and tried to replace it. Problem is, both of the replacements I have won't fit. Am I missing something?

Yes - you have left the outer rim of the old seal in the casing! Knock it out - carefully - from the outside to the inside, but try to support the casing so it doesn't distort.
