First Trip!

Post by wiglaf »

I've just been out in my minor for the first time since I was a learner on it about four years ago: around twenty miles round trip along roads I know fairly well to a garage for petrol and a bit of a blast too, and it was fantastic! She may "only" have a 948cc, and rattles a bit around 60, but it was much more fun than nipping about in the Polo I've been on for the last few weeks... now I probably ought to stay back from 60 a bit though, as she's still on the old leaded cylinder head...

Tomorrow, the 80 mile run down to Cambridge: I'm looking forwards to this!

Don't worry about the 'leaded' cylinder head - it will last for many a mile.

Thats great! Minors are a lot more fun than modern cars!
60mph cruising speed is fine for a 1098 or 948 minor. Just don;t thrash it up the hills and you will be fine.

Keep an eye on the oil and water and it will run all day at 60mph. Agree with BMC ecosse on the head, my car has a "leaded" head, no signs of valve seat wear yet.
Cheers John - all comments IMHO

Thanks for the tips on the head: I've had a lovely run down to Cambridge, I only got lost twice (poor signage, honest!) and did the whole thing in about 2 1/2 hours... I did wish I hadn't filled up to the brim with super just before setting out as I drove through Wisbech and saw somewhere selling 4star on the main road though...!
