Morris Minor Owners Club

Hi all can anyone tell me where I can get replacement gutter strip? Im guessing that's what its called. The strip that runs from front to rear on the roof. Are they replaceable, available and how do I replace them? I cant find them anywhere.

its a two door saloon 1963,

You can get repair sections from some of the suppliers, but I have never seen what they look like.

I expect someone will along soon who has done this job.

fairmile restorations ( check out the lcv site for the link ) does them for the pick ups and vans, but he will make them to order for any length

These seem to rust a lot what do people who do full restorationd do to repair these?

The correct way to repair this area, is to drill out the spot welds that hold the old gutter on. These should be really visible between the bulging rusty bits - (the damp gets inbetween the spotwelds and the rust bulges out the guttering). Then clean up and repair if nessacery the flat area, from the roof edge to the door edge. Then fit the new guttering, either by spot welding, if you have a spot welder that will cope with three layers of steel, or puncg a series of holes (1 -1.5" spacing) in the new guttering and plug weld with a mig welder. The welds can then be ground flat with a flexible sanding disc on a grinder, to give the appearance of spot welding. Then run a bead of seam sealant down the guttering to prevent any further water ingress, and prepare and paint to taste! Hope that helps!
