I wanted to take the front door hinges apart to free them up, clean the rust out, and repaint them properly, but I can't get the pins out! I suspect the flush end of the pin is stepped and the domed end has been rivetted over. Can anyone confirm this?

Update: Filed off one of the domed ends and tried to drift it through from that side with the aid of a blowtorch, but still no movement.

The hinge pins have a knurled section at the TOP to prevent them turning
therefore they must be knocked out upwards. There is no 'domed end'
on any of my standard hinges. You can buy oversize pins if you need them.

The ones I have are domed at the top and appear to be knurled at the bottom, though it's a bit hard to tell. I eventually gave up trying to get the pins out and have managed to free them up by washing them in white spirit while moving them back and forth. Lots of bright red rust came out, and they're nice and free now without being too sloppy. I realised that if I couldn't get the old pins out despite using lots of heat and force, there was no way I'd be able to get the new ones in without damaging the new paint, so I'll have to clean and paint them while they're still assembled.

I've just done this job as well. I was lucky the worn one drifted out easily. The pin was badly worn' but a new pin has more or less got rid of the play without having to ream it out to fit an oversized one.
