Small end bearings

I removed the old pistons from the con-rods of the engine I'm rebuilding yesterday, and I noticed that the small end bearings were all a copper colour. Is this a bad sign? I know that if mains and big ends are that colour it means they're worn...

If the small ends are worn then is it possible to replace them?

I didn't manage to get a very good picture - this is the best one:

I have never replaced them - or heard of it being done either. But test-fit with your new gudgeon pins and see how they seem.

Just test-fitted and they're nice and snug with no play that I can detect. Phew! :D

If they are replaced they will need reaming out to allow the pin to pass through; because the bushes close up a bit when pressed in.
