Private message - something strange

When I logged on this evening a message was displayed on the menu bar to the left of this page reading "You have 1 private message".

I have set up the option that sends me an e-mail when I receive a private message but I received no e-mail to inform me that a pm had arrived and there is no new message displayed in my mail box.

When I clicked on the "you have 1 private message" a page appeared (not in the usual website format) informing me that I had a message from a member named 'ell' (which is not a user name I recognise) from Nottingham, asking me if I am the Louise who was selling some red seats a few weeks ago. 'Ell' states that he/she has a '68 2 door (the same as me) and is "always looking for interior items".

This seems very strange as there have been no red seats for sale on the site for some months, and certainly not from anyone called Louise. There is no user profile displayed showing when 'ell' registered on the site and there is a link to a website and e-mail address but no way of responding via pm. I haven't clicked on either as this seems really fishy.

Has anyone else here received a message like this ie not via the normal pm system? Does anyone know if there is a registered user named 'ell'?I might be worrying unnecessarily but something seems strange about this message. Perhaps one of the moderators can look into this.

Louise, could you PM me with the details including the website and email address and I'll see what I can find out.

Yup, I've had a thing saying "You have 1 private message" in the side bar of the page for months, but "You have no new messages" at the top of the page... Very queer

Andrew,

Did you click on the "you have 1 private message" and see who the message is from? Did it seem an odd message or genuine?

I raised this issue with Cam about a year ago because I had a similar problem only with two messages. He was stumped and said to just ignore that area.
