I have a complere spare engine which i think is a 1275, the number is 12V EH489383 and from reading other posts i think it may be a Marina engine as the oil filter is angled out of the block. The engine mounts appear to be central on the engine, so will this fit in my Traveller??

yes the engine will go in, with a few mods.

the engine should fit fairly easily, but what gearbox do you intend to use? the marina box is bulkier than the minor one, so takes time to make room for it in the car. you could connect the minor gearbox to the marina engine, but only if you dont drive it hard and if its a standard spec engine. The midget gearbox is harder to find but is very similar in size to the minor box - and stronger.
hope this helps, any more questions and there are loads of people here who can help!!

Thanks for that, i take it the midget gearbox is the best to go with then.

the midget and marina box are both 4 speed, The marina box is probably slightly stronger, and more easiliy available. but the midget one easier to fit as I said before. It is possible to fit a 5 speed gearbox, the sierra is the most commonly used, but this is expensive and requires alot of modifications and extra parts. The midget box will be easier to fit the car, but whether it will bolt onto the marina engine I am not sure. You might need to get a midget backplate also. There might be someone else on the forum who has fitted a marina engine to a midget box, if so now is the time to step forward!!

It may be a Maestro engine - they too have the high angled oil filter. But a completely different crank end fitting for the flywheel.

The Minor and Midgt boxes are identical in terms of bolting to an engine as far as I know (stronger internals though), so if a Marina lump needs work to fit to a Minor box, it'll need the same to fit a Midget.
The Marina/ Triumph box is quite heavy and bulky, but should handle a decent amount of power - IIRC it was used on OHV (1300 and torquey 1500) and 1850 Triumphs. And can be found with overdrive on 3rd and 4th too, making a 6 speeder

It would take a fair bit more work to fit though, as it'll be the wrong size, has the wrong prop drive etc..
