does anyone know if the remote control unit ( the part that moves the gear lever further back) from a 1098 minor gearbox will fit to a midget 1275 gearbox? it looks the same in pictures but just want to be sure.

Pretty sure it's absolutely the same. I guess Spridgets used a shorter gear lever.

Yes and the Midget remote also has a built in reversing light switch which can be useful.
