Yesterday I helped a fellow Minor enthusiast, broken down at side of road.
Upon close inspection there was a strange sort of servo fitted, Can anyone ID the unit.
Now how do I put photos on here? Anyone.[/img]

you need to first upload the image file to a host on the internet, i can host it for you if you want, or there are plenty of free image hosting websites about. you then need to know the website address of the image, which will be something like http://www.website.com/wanderinstar/image.jpg you then press the "img" button type in the web address, and press the button again. PM me and I can host the image for you.

While you're here Ian, would you care to comment on this earlier thread? There are three of us on here planning to fit Riley 1.5 front drums and you're the only person we know who's done it already...

Excuse me but I dont see any connection with fitting a servo for front discs and fitting Riley front drums. Will gladly tell anyone how I did it.
Perhaps I should start another thread.

Re photos. I have them on photobucket but how do I get them on here?

there should be a link right below the picture, with the img/ things already attached. If I remember correctly it is the bottom link.

God there a bit on the large side, but at least there on.
Right now any ideas, obviously Nissan in origin.

The discussion about Riley 1.5 front drums starts a few pages in.

The two main points are:
* Do they require a lot more pedal force than the standard drums? Picky measured the Riley's cylinder bore to be 11/16" compared to the standard 8" Morris front drums' 15/16" cylinders, which if my calculations are correct should make the standard drums 1.6x more powerful than the Rileys for a given line pressure (until they start to fade).
* Similarly do you have problems with front-rear imbalance causing the rears to lock up early due to the fronts being less powerful than normal?

It seems like the Rileys, like the disc conversions, might benefit from either servoing the fronts only or servoing both ends but with a limiter valve on the rears.

BTW, BMC says the Wolseley 1500 front drums use the same size cylinders as the standard Moggy front drums, which should make them better all round.

We were also interested in the specification of the flexihoses and where you got them from.

According to the parts book I have it's a Nissan Sunny 1.6 Master cylinder, servo and brake compensator.

A quick google of the part number on the side of that m/c seems to say it's from a 1.6 Nissan Sunny, made between 1987 and 1989. Not much help, I know!

EDIT: Snap, Lee!

The interesting point is how easy did it look to fit and was the brake pedal in the usual minor position?

What was wrong with the roadside repair Minor anyway ? Did you give it a tow with your Monster Truck Ian ??

Well the chap was driving along the road and the bonnet blew up and snapped the hinges off. The bonnet was leant up against the front of car. It had pulled most off bonnet strengthener off. So I put bonnet in back of Clio and followed him home.

Geez look at thatt minefield of wires and scotch locks! I thought our tracing electrical faults on our trav was bad. All red wires just tied and taped together!

The wiring looks quite neat and tidy to me !! But what about that 5 way (or is it 6 way ?) hydraulic connector to the left of the servo - which I guess is the 'compensator' ? All looks like more trouble than it's worth !

I wonder if it's one of those gizmos that stops you losing all hydraulic pressure if one pipe breaks?

Checking the part number it is a brake compensator from the same Nissan Sunny model.

But what does it actually do?
