How badly do I want this engine... :o

It'll probably go for a fair bit I should imagine.

I don't think it will be particularly expensive, but as with all tuned engines may not be as good as it seems.

Pity it has no flywheel - and a decent head will be required to get the best from it. Bit too far for me unfortunately!

I'd dearly love to bid, but for lots of reasons it would be far to expensive for me right now. The engine is just the start - I just don't have the money to make all the suspension and disc brake mods that would be needed, plus decent heads seem to be upwards of £300 from minisport and the like. Don't know what the insurance company would say either!

... Which is why I'm going the tuned 1098 + Riley brake route.

The head can be easily worked over DIY fashion. Really need the larger MG style inlet valves - but these can be added quite cheaply to a normal 940 head. It's the best head for your 1098 too!

Riley brakes would easily haul you up with that engine. A standard head could be fitted while you save up for something special - still don't think it will go for a great deal.

@ £350 right now, and 25 mins to go. Still a bargain - till the snipers arrive

That's not bad considering Mini Sport want nearly that much just for a set of 73.5mm (1380cc) pistons!

That'd why I'm sobbing. Cheaper than re-building a 1098 :D

Looks like Pete was right, dont know why it went for so little as the MG association normally shoves the price up even though it wasnt an MG block.

I've been watching a few modified A series over the years, and they never command really good money. This is possibly because folk don't like taking a chance of getting a duffer, so would rather build their own.
Best idea is to get the full spec of the engine, then cost it to build it yourself - then decide whether it is worth taking a chance. So long as the basics are fine - Bore, pistons, crank etc, it doesn't really cost much for a freshen up.
It did go for a bit more than I thought though considering it had a standard head.
