At last I managed to uncover the true colour beneath the multiple paint layers as shown in Pics, could anyone please advice on how to get the exact same colour?

I know I'm probably wrong, but is it some kind of metallic spray?

One other thing, what colour is the central part (seen in the photo below) I mean the part where you insert the key and light switch ect?

See under "technical tips" on the left. There is a page there with all the paints and their numbers. Hope that helps.

Oh and by the way, I have a beige 803 and the dash is the same colour as the body.

Is it the original paint?

the dash should be that gold ish colour, only the LCVs had them in body colour I think

export cars

but mine isn't as LCV. It is described in the original papers as a De Lux Four Door Salloon. I don't know what the De Lux was for cos it never had any heating,"go faster" trim or the little doors on the glove compartments.

As a DeLuxe it should have two sunvisors, and a (in the UK st least!) a heater. Your car is a post oct 1954 car then, only the pre oct 54 cars had the gold dash with the speedo on the drivers side, not central

Your car is absoluetly right colourwise with no doors and body colour dash Dumbo

An LCV is the Light Commercial Vehicle, the Pick up, the Van and the chassis-cab as produced from 1953

Hi I just joined because i have the same problem re the gold finish on my early series 2 all three parts should be gold and the BMC ref no is 2RB8 i hope to have the ICI ref NO shortly as a local paint shop is makeing up a spray can for me. It is available from some MM spare shops but the potage makes it expensive hope this helps Les!

yes, markattard it is the original Cellulose paint.
According to the papers it left Nuffields works on the 30th Ausust, 1955 and was exported (bill of lading) 31st August 1955. It still has working trafficators and I left the long gear stick on when I changed the gearbox and engine.
Is there any significance to the big coffee-pot thingy under the bonnet?

Thanks Onne, It seems like you're the history book on the series II, mine is a 1953 so it should have the gold ish look (anyway I found this colour when stripping...the paint of course..) Please could you confirm the grey paint on the central dash console? Les says all three parts are gold?

Les, I shall use a toyota ref no for the gold colour, it looks pretty much like the original, it's a metallic spray, I dont know if the original was as metallic though!!

I cannot confirm the central bit to be gold, but I am quite sure it is. If we are talking about the bit behind the central grille, the loose bit sandwiched between the body of the car and said grille.
The plate that has the key and lights/choke/starter in.

The central grille is NOT gold coloured, that should be chrome (polished monkey metal anyway...)

Dumbo's car is not comparible in this context to the one Mark has. Steering wheel should be the same though :D

Just like Mirium, the middle plate behind the removable grill is the same gold.
