My 1275 goldseal reconditioned engine sump is full of pinholes so leaks quite badly! due to the engine been stood on a concrete floor for about 15 years does anyone know if the standard 1098 sump will fit, or anyone who may have a good 1275 sump, alternatively would it be possible to weld a new bottom section on.

i think it depends what 1275 you have whether the sump is inter changable with a 1098
you had midget, ital and marina, altho marina and ital are the same, but i have a feeling the midget may be the only one that is interchangeable
I had similar problems with a Fiat sump a few years ago - although that was because it was made of $%&£ steel. I welded a piece of steel over the bad areas and had no more problems. However - it obviously has to be oil tight welding - which was easy enough with my oxy-acetylene kit - but may not be so easy with MIG. I was told (on here) ages ago that the 1098 sump fits ok - but I have never tried it.
i have a midget 1275 sump in the garage and from memory it looks identical to the 1098 sump.
1969 Four door Saloon Old English White 1275 with ported head and HS4 carb. Wolseley 1500 front brakes. Currently off the road with a leaky master cylinder!
I've never had a sump off myself but the gasket is in three parts, one of them being for the rear crank/bearing area. These are different sizes on different engines I believe so they might not be interchangeable.
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.
The bearing areas of the 1275 sump are bigger than the 1098 sump, have got the sump repaired at work by getting all the pitted area filled with brass brazing which has solved the problem.
