after struggling to fit a new master cylinder , I extended the hole about an inch to the rear and hay presto the rear brake pipe fitting is easy to screw in . Just weld an extension to cover plate and job done !

Easier than that. Undo the union at the rear flexible and pull the M/C out with the pipe attached and unscrew it then!
To repace it reverse the process!!

It's the truth, Roger, but virtually nobody ever seems to do it this way, as I've said before

I imagine that's the reverse of what they did when they installed it...
PS sorry, hideous use of language...

How does that work then? Surely the front bulkhead gets in the way?

It is quite flexible Peetee, that brakepipe.

yes, well both are flexible. One is flexible a couple of times, with car, the other is made to flex.. hence the name of course
I work with brake pipes and brake fluid all day long (does not do my hands any good, that is for sure!)

What front bulkhead, btw? Bear in mind I've never worked on the cars, just wondering if it's something different to an LCV

That's what I thought, but couldn't see how it would get in the way
