distributor options for supercharged engine

Post by picky »

Im still deciding what engine setup to use for my supercharger project. Regarding the distributor, I am still undecided as to whether to use a vacuum type or not. Im thinking of buying an aldon one, with an advance curve to suit the engine. What are the benefits of having a vacuum type? my understanding is that at high vacuum the distributor adjusts the ignition timing which makes the engine "tamer" at part throttle openings, when outright power is not needed. then when the throttle is opened fully the vacuum collapses and the igniton timing is adjusted for max performance/power.

discuss. :o

I've been wondering about that, and I'm pretty sure you're right: The vacuum-advance makes the car more docile in everday use, when you don't have your heel to the steel :-)
Helps part-throttle fuel economy, too I believe.

I'm also looking to an Aldon unit and I'm definitely going for one with a vacuum thingy.
