hey im trying to connect a friends mac to a livebox router, which is a problem in itself, but the main problem is that the mac is in german and I cant find how to change the language Im used to windows so I could do with a few pointers. its running mac os 9.2.1

See if you can get a copy of OSX, its much better than the old 9.2.
Like night and day. Just plug it in and it works straight away on a router.
From memory of 9.2, try clicking the Apple in the top left of the screen from the drop down menu you should see settings and langauge. I'll fire up 9.2 when I'm at home and see if i CAN HELP YOU.

many thanks chikenjohn! I would like to avoid upgrading the OS just to use broadband.. my friend speaks fluent german but some of the network settings had words he couldnt translate.. so havnt been been able to work out what they are. it did mention a PPP server, but the livebox I think is a dhcp server so im wondering if what I am trying to do is even possible

If the Mac has a network socket (most of them do) then it should be possible to connect to broadband via a router/modem.

yes the livebox is a router, ive connected via ethernet cable but it still tries to dial up, I will have another fiddle with settings this evening. thanks for all your help, my post on the mac users forum hasnt had any replies at all yet!

alex holden's link was almost exactly right, only took a few mins to sort. I was unfamilier with the way the administrator account works.
