I weighed a bare 1275 block recently and it was 30 Kg - my guess is the box would be about the same - maybe slightly more.

About 21 Kg, according to the scales here.

Well done Andrew! It's far too cold and miserable up here for me to go out and weigh my spare tonight.

Same here (though no snow), but I was very bored, and I have 3 in easy reach :D

Another bored person, there's one in 'off topic' what's going on here? Hobby/job, springs to mind!

No job, more's the pity, and it's tricky to get one when you have MS, and hobby? It's too dark to be working on the cars :(

Sorry if that sounded insensitive.

Don't worry - just thought I'd point out why your solutions wouldn't work :D

thanks everyone! all I have got to do now is take out the seized in all gears except 1st one and we've cracked it.

Ehh ? Sorry - don't follow.

Remove the 'box that is seized in all gears except first.

Aye - read it again (and again and again) - and I see now what it means! Strange to have it 'seize' in all these gears - yet still drive through the main shaft in first gear!! I'll need to have a lie down and think about how that could happen.

ok I agree it's a bit confusing but yes it is strange seized in all positions except 1st which is selected in roughly the reverse's postion. the "H" pattern seems to have disappeared and there is no neutral.

explanations please or we will have to wait for stripdown in about a weeks time.the new one is a 1275 midget box I understand they are a bit more sturdy and have a higher 1st and 2nd ratios. is that true and does it have syncromesh on !st?

Err not sure about the ratios, but I dont see why not. No syncro on 1st

Do you have the lates Minor Matters? In tech tips there is an explanation of what to do if the gearbox intenrals decide to jam 1st gear in place. I'm guessing that if 1st gear is unable to disengage, then if you engage another gear the geabox will be blocked?

Maybe a long shot, but it would be interesting to know if these problems are related.

I have a couple of gearboxes around but my scales are pretty random so not within 10kg! 21kg sounds about right as they are heavy but certainly not too heavy to pick up and carry.

Not gospel - weighed on a set of bath room scales that I don't really trust, but about right.
