Hello, Has anyone got a transitional car built between approx Jan to May 1951. The cars had many low light features, but had high headlights. Reason for asking is does anyone know whether these cars had aluminium door kick plates.
thanks Keith

Only the early lowlight has ally kickplates I think.

Ok thanks Onne. The kick plates look genuine, so I suspect either they have been taken from an earlier car or they were trying use up the old stock when the car was built when the model changed from low to high light. The car is a nice combination of design, short bonnet, headlight bezels in the inner wings etc. Could make a nice low light!...although I understand the transition cars are fairly rare as they were only made for a few months in 1951..., so could be kept as a high light...

Dear Keith,
According to 'Original Morris Minor' by Ray Newell, the 1st high light LHD to USA was SMM 5708, Jan 49.
Four doors were introduced at SMM 65004 LHD and 62551 RHD, Sept 50, which of course were highlights.
High light wings were introduced on the 2 door and tourer at SMM 81595 LHD and 83390 RHD, Jan 51.
Fixed rear side windows were fitted at SMM 100920 RHD and 102836 LHD, Jun 51.
Long bonnet introduced at SMM 109699 RHD and 110504 LHD, Aug 51.

According to my records the 1st high light was SMM 16248, DUD 693, now owned by Cam. This is supported by press cuttings.

See you at the Series MM Rally
Michael

Paul Hurd fitted an excellent hood to his MM a few years ago, so contact him if you want details of where to get a replacement.
On the subject of weather I have booked sunshine for the MM Rally, however I am sure we could arrange for garaging if necessary.
Have I persuaded you to attend yet??
