DVLC and missing engine number for V5

Having upgraded the Moggie and installed a 1275 engine and advised the insurers, I need to have the V5 amended. However there is no engine number on the block and I wonder what others have done in the same situation? All advice welcome.

Why not call the DVLA and ask them?

I will have the same problem soon. I was advised to make one up... btw taking the engine number from your old engine is illegal. if you do ring the dvla do pass on what they said!

I never changed the engine number, just changed the capacity
