Anyone, ON THIS LIST, actually done an autobox conversion ?

I'm still struggling to find a BW65 bellhousing so am now looking into seeing if it'd be possible to adapt the Triumph one currently attached to the gearbox I have.
I've a copy of the Owen Burton booklet and note what is recommended but has anyone, ON THIS LIST, actually followed the instructions ?

Thanks.

Paul Humphries.

Hi Paul in all the Rallys I have been to in the last 10 years or so I have only actually seen one with this conversion done and this was quite some time ago so its quite a rare conversion, and as only a small amount of the membership actually use this site I fear you maybe out of luck, but I hope to be proved wrong.

Here's a complete Minor with Fiat engine and autobox - may be worth a shot.

Alternatively if you fancy trying the crossflow route there is an autobox here

Thanks.

I'm going to keep my eye on that.

Actually I have a wanted advert in the Classic Motor Monthly this month
(just arrived "hot off the press" this morning) so fingers crossed if someone has a bellhousing then hopefully they might contact me.

Sods Law says this is the first, correct, BW65 I've seen for sale and it's a round trip of nearly 700 miles to collect :(

Ask him if he'll send it by courier.

I'm still debating over this despite a good nights sleep !
I think I'll probably buy but won't get into out bidding someone else so if they want it then I won't push the price up for them.
I have sent a message to seller confirming whether the engine back plate and flexi plate are included in the sale so will decide 100% when I get their reply.
Before all the kind offers for help in collecting (which I might still take up :D ) I started to look into collection myself.
The cost of laving shipped on a pallet was about the same as the fuel needed so I started to develop an idea.
I haven't had a holiday for maybe 5 years so why not spend a few days in that wonderfull area of UK.
I'm still thinking about it as it tempts me almosts as much as the gearbox !
It'd be a nice little run out for the Minor too

I looked into autoboxing a minor very hard after my knee got smashed up.

I drove 4 auto cars when deciding what to do with emily... the first a marina 1275 with bw35 box was awfull, appauling gear ratios and it was impossible to pull off into trafic safely, owner compained bitterly that regardless of diff ratio used it was impossible to get a compromise between acceleration or top speed.
Second car was a local car to me in Evesham with a later ital 1275 with bw65 box and was also terrible to drive, owner was running a 4.22 diff with stage 1 conversion on the engine and was still dangerous in my opinion when you needed to pull out

the other two were much more usable, 1st was a crossflow ford engine and autobox that to be honest looked like it was factory fitted, fitted easily with minor bell houseing modds , custom engine mounts and a new prop.. Drove very very well for a 1300cc with plenty of get up and go.

4th car was a datsun sunny 1300 engine and autobox in a late traveler that was used by a local chap that had lots his legs and used hand controls. this was fantastic, had plenty of usable performance and no body modds bar a new gear box cover
