Took the old girl up and down the motorway for a round trip of 30 miles today. Coming back we were right into the teeth of the gale and struggling on a very slight incline just to maintain 45mph. All a little scary  so I left the motorway a junction early and made my way through Swinton to Worsley.

As I sat at the lights in Swinton I watched a large, thick piece of roofing felt come of a roof and land right behind a pedestrian, although he didn't even notice. :o

I moved forward about 20 yards, next thing there was an almighty clatter and the offending article bounced of my shiny trafalgar blue roof.

It was getting dark, an early investigation shows that there don't appear to be any dents, but there is a fair few scratches and a load of tar marks. Hopefully they will both T-cut out.

Tell you what though, it wasn't for the faint-hearted going up the M62 today, I didn't half weave a wobbly path! :D

A long time ago I was driving along about 50 mph in Desmond (yellow 1963 2 door Morris) when the bonnet lifted off, slammed into the roof and went cart-wheeling off behind me. The dent in the roof was easily pushed out and returned to the original shape, and even the bonnet fitted back on, once I got some new hinges. The only lasting damage was a perfect impression of the red bull badge in the middle of the roof. Scary, though. Luckily nothing behind, and shows the importance of the bonnet cath (which was broken on Desmond)

Graham before resorting to T-cut, try my favorite Mer polish it has a sap and tar remover in it and is very gentle on the paintwork it may require a little more elbow grease than T-cut but its well worth trying 1st, also its great on chromework and much better than a lot of the chrome polishes, its available almost everwhere from local makets to Halfrauds and Asdas.

Kevin,

Washed the car. Tried the Mer, it removed all but the stubborn bits of tar, didn't do anything for the scratches.

Tried ordinary T-Cut, which removed all the remaining tar and some of the finer scratches. Bought some T-Cut colour match blue, which removed some more of the scratches.

Still got some bigger scratches on two corners of the roof, and on the foot of one of the rear door areas.

The one bonus is that the whole car has now been T-Cut and polished, and is now parked on the front of the drive showing off. :D

Suggest you get some Farecla G3 and a damp cloth, follow the instructions and dont rub through the paint, you should then get out all the scratches
