I have recently put 20 Litres into my moggy and want to see how far i get out of it so i can work my miles/gallon out. whats a good avg?

A good average would be 50 mpg

Seriously though, my 1098 has managed about 38-40 mpg (depends on how bad the traffic can is, how fast I travel (A roads good, M-way not so good), and how enthusiastic you are.

Our 948 (back in the 60's) managed over 50 mpg on a run up the M1 (kept below 55 mph) mind you, the traffic was different then as well.

We average between 38mpg and 46mpg.

I have noticed a massive difference between Normal unleaded and Supermarket brand Super unleaded. THe Super is only 2p a litre more but has been averaging the top mpgs 44,46,43. While branded normal Unleaded (Texaco) has been worst (35mpg)

Most of maudes driving is pretty regular town /slow A road driving(less than 50mph) and tank to tank is pretty constant. I know driving style makes a huge difference but I have been really surprised at the fuel (RON) making the big changes.

So have I. I did some calculations, and it turns out to be cheaper to get super unleaded.

I did 200 miles in my Series II, without filling up (5 gallon tank) There was only a tiny drop left in the tank, but this was mostly motorway driving. AND on a 4.55 diff

hmmm, due to fill up in the next two days. Might try the old super stuff then.

I get around 35 with mixed town driving but I would expect more if I lived in a nice flat area and I dont have any big hills to negotiate.

Onne, you there? Did you get more MPG (or use less LPKm) when you lived "met kaas voor breakfast" as per Kevin's note above?

Going to work mixed with the weekly trip to Maidstone for the resto night course over 1 week, I gwt 39mpg. On the Isle of wight trip (motorway at 50-60mph mixed with touring round the Isle of wight, I got 44mpg. And this is without especially trying to drive economically.

Drivers of modern cars are impressed by those figures- the Morris Minor is an economical car- by any standards-.

For my 1971 1098cc standard engined Traveller on standard supermarket unleaded:-

Over 1700 miles, average 35.6, best 41.5, worst 26.1.

I was happy with that, as my Rover 75 2.5 auto averages 25.8 .

I think I might try the super next time, and see if there's an improvement.

I have managed 47 mpg in Holland, with an extremely sick engine.

It really depends on how heavy your foot is

If your trying Super I would be interested in anyones results from Branded Super,Shell, BP etc.

I've only used Sainsburies (Supplied by BP apparently) and as I don't have massive amounts of cash haven't tried anyone elses yet.

I find I get about 38 mpg on 97 octane (super unleaded) during the winter, town driving, short journeys. On a long run, motorway driving it goes up to about 44 - 45. With ordinary unleaded it's about 12% worse on the fuel consumption. Super costs about 5 - 6% more, so there is a good saving to be had! It runs much more evenly too, and with more power.
