Fitting 5 Door Metro Seats

Has anybody fitted the front seats from a 5 door metro into a traveller? I presume the seats will not tip forward as they are. What conversion work was required to the seats? Also as these seats are leather does anybody know of a good leather dye?

For Maude I just made up a seat frame out of old tube so it looked like the standard minor one but was the width of the new seat.

What took longer was working out a reasonable height for the new seat and seat base angle. This was all for MX-5 seats but I had started on Metros but just never fitted them both.

What is a problem is the new seat will probably have a headrest. When you tip the seat forward this will not tip as much as the old seat did. Not the end of the world you might think but if you are putting small kids in the back it gets a bit tedious after a while.

Thats why the 3 door ones are used as the tilt mechanism is built into the seat structure and I have not heard of anyone converting one, you have 2 options try getting some leather ones from a GTE version or sourcing some cloth covered ones from an MG and swapping the covers over but I dont know how easy that would be.

Early Rover 200 seats (roughly H-L reg) are very similar to Metro seats and some of these cars were 2 door.

After sitting in Maude on thursday I'm definitely hunting down some MX5 seats with the speakers in.

They are way comfortable and provide excellent lumbar support, and the headrest speakers mean I don't have to cut anthing in the car's interior. They are also quite narrow and come in black to match the rest of the interior. Perfect all round.
