Right, carrying out some bodge work tommorrow on the Turbo trav.

:-?

Stripped some of the varnish off today and dried out portions of it with a heat gun and scraper. Then treated the areas with some wood hardener to get some strength back in the black areas.

Went upto B&Q and bought some wood filler to pad out the gaps and really rotten bits in the woodwork!

I came away with two pots. One was a pine finish Ronseal and the other was wood putty (was 50p from the bargain bin!) I had a thought that they might be the same thing, or at least do the same thing, the ronseals a 2part mix like P45 but the puttys just, err well putty really!

Has anyone used putty before in woodwork, or should I stick with the ronseal stuff. The putty was dead cheap so I thought why not, can always use it for windows or gaps in the wood!

GOing to try to neaten up the badly rotten areas screw in some screws then fill with putty and re-varnish the really bad areas. I found though if you heated and removed the varnish you could get lots of water out of the wood by heat blowning and scraping.

Just want to tidy it up a little bit really. Got the welding to finish off now, the rear number plate lights to get working then the horn which is playin up again, intermittant when the buttons pressed, so just some contacts to clean me thinks.

In an ideal situation you want something the same colour whendry as the timber and will be similar when varnished so as not to be too obvious it may pay to trial alittle to see what comes out the best.

The putty,if it's oil based,is for glazing windows and takes forever to dry.
In my dealings with wood filler, no mater how close you try and match the colour, one varnished it always stands out.
I would use the P45 because of it's strength and paint and grain it.
Then a good couple of heavy coats of varnish on the top of that..
Eather way it's a fudge and you only need to convince the MOT tester...
