Stirring the pudding

I now have my 2nd Series II on the road, and this one still has the pudding stirrer.
Nothing wrong with that as such, but it quite hard to get it into gear without any crunch.
Does that just mean double declutch or might it be something simpler (other than the synchromesh worn out)
Especially fourth is hard to get into smoothly, the other are ok as long as I take my time.

But 4th gear should be easy - the syncro on that doesn't have to do any hard work - which only comes on down-shifts where the syncro has to speed up the lower gear to match the rotating parts. I would look to the clutch clearances - try to get a bit more travel at the clutch lever - and look out for a better second-hand box! It seems likely to me that the parts from a later 948 box should fit ok into an 803 box - not so sure about the internals of a 1098 rib-case box - anyone tried fitting them into an 803 box ? The baulk ring syncro in the 1098 box is far superior - so this would bea worthwhile conversion if it's possible. Alternatively - can the pudding stirrer just be fitted to the back of a rib case box if the remote control is removed ??

I may be wrong but i think there is a conversion kit out there to fit a long stick to a 1098 or 948 box. I am sure i discussed it with east sussex minors a couple of years ago as i fancied a better ratio set in my sII.

that sounds like a god idea!
I am going to look into that. I find the ratios somewhat awkward anyway.
3 first gear and an overdrive

There's no need for a conversion kit, for the 948 box anyway.
There's a difference in the reverse gear selector rod. In the SII, you have to lift the lever over a step in the selector to engage reverse. Most steps are worn down anyway but if you're worried about inadvertant reverse gear selection, just swap over the selector rod to the 948 box.
Other than that, just swap the rear housing over.
