Hello,

I've seen a good Moggy for sale but it has modern black on white/yellow number plates. Do you know a place where I could have old style chrome on black number plates made?

Regards,
Pascal

Most Morris Minor places can help you. You will need your documents for it.

Even your local motorfactors should be able to help you

Try this one - excellent service and great quality products, you can order over the phone and you dont need your documents. All they do is then put a sticker on the rear of the plate that says "these are not road legal". Sticker off and Bob's you auntie's next-of-kin. They even did custom size ones for my Rover P4. :D

I use Framptons (do a google for it), they do next day delivery on all plates. I've had nothing but excellent service from them.

Does anyone know if the 'old style' number plates can be read by the automated average speed camera systems ??? I imagine the silver embossed style might be quite difficult - the raised white plastic letters on black background may be more easily read. Just a point to consider! After all, we wouldn't want these cameras getting all confused, now would we ?

Got done for speeding at 38mph in a 30 zone, in my rover with raised plastic lettering. Had only owned the car for 35 1/2 hours!!

Chances are if you can read it easily then you will find the images processing software can too, its pretty good stuff. If the image processing software has a hard time trying to read it, then it would get passed on to a human to work it out and you're just as likely to be done for any offence.

All these gadgets and magic sprays to 'hide' you number plate are a waste of money, and driving around without a plate or one that is illegal should eventually get you noticed for a traffic offence.

Aye - but the average speed cameras rely on reading the plate and calculating the average between two cameras. I just wondered if it could read the silver on black easily - they are not that obvious - and it's the front plate which sometimes gets to be angled slightly downwards I find - dunno how !! Probably the force of the air ??

ahh so if the plates at the wrong angle we can blame the RAF?? ;)

Dunno about speed cameras but I do know that the automatic Number plate recognition at some of the garages near here can't read the black ones cos it takes twice as long to get the pump released if I'm in the Minor.

They are probably just admiring the telecoms yellow- I used to have one like that.

:o If you're thinking about buying a minor you really need to concentrate on the condition of the underfloor, not the colour of the numberplates! :o

BMC, Im sure if the plates were THAT angled (ie. perpendicular to where they should be) you'd have no worries on the average speed cameras :D.
