Exhausts
The "new" Travs exhaust system is a total bodge... and quite restrictive.
Its got a load of flexi pipe and tin cans on it!
Has anyone got any experience of the different lcb/large bore exhaust systems on the market... bearing in mind I dont have much money to spend!
Cheers

The cheapest way that I have found is to get a 3-2 cast iron manifold off a MG Metro or I believe an Ital . Then but 2-1 front pipe and 2 boxes from ESM. It came to about £172 plus clamps. However they are temporarily out of stock of centre section and rear one. You can get them from Minor Centre in Brum, but you only get 15 years warranty whereas with ESM its lifetime. Can't understand that as they are both made by Falcon.

It's amazing what you can do with straight pipe, a hacksaw and a welder. I used to go to the local exhaust place and get good silencers (preferably straight through) that had been removed from vehicles, buy some straight pipe, and just make them up - total cost - about a tenner (in todays money).

SR - Running a 1275 which is about to get a big vhaust big valved head, and the current system is a total bodge! Also its on a HIF44 but with the twin exit marina manifold and its all connected up with flexi pipe, gun gum, a pepsi can and exhaust clamps!!! and LCB and a metro ally inlet would be a bit of help!

My personal experience of the Falcon exhaust is an experience tainted by:
- Front section doesn't fit manifold correctly (eventually took the manifold off, clamped one pipe in, then using a large amount of force, and some large levers, got the second pipe to match up and clamped it quickly, before it could move).
- First exhaust was the wrong length, the front section was too short and had to be cut in half and lengthened, the rear section was too long (the wheel arch hump was in the wrong place, basically).
- But not to worry, because that one sheared after the first silencer, oh, and after the second silencer. (Actually, the second silencer failed first, then the front one)
- They were replaced, the new one was the right length, but the front section broke just after the front silencer.
- Which was replaced, and to quote the fitter 'it felt quite stressed so I've heated the pipes up and it feels a lot better now' - only problem, it clips speedbumps, 'cos it hangs so low, but never mind, because...
- That third front section? It's started to go behind the front silencer.
Personally, I can't recommend falcon exhausts...
