Oh splutter

I keep having problems with my engine.
When she is at low revs, she splutters, and seems to run on three cylinders.
It is getting worse.
I have changed back to points now, which solved it at first, but it has started occurring again.
Any idea what I should look out for?
Compression is still 175psi on all four
Oil pressure is 60psi at anything above idle.
Can it have anything to do with fuel?

Have you changed petrol type lately? Or maybe gunge in the tank?

buy a set of spark plug testers and you can eliminate the electrical side or not depending on the result. You can get a set of four for a couple of quid.

I have found the culprit. A faulty spark plug!
Pity I have accidentely blown up my Aldon Ignitor.
At least I now have two cars that (sort of) run

Bad plugs were to blame when I was the last to leave our annual rally this year,This would not have been a problem but I had just fitted the supercharger the week before and this was it's running in tip.
Stalled it at the park gates and It would not relight.
(felt like a complete grape).

Carry spare plugs and plug spanner - then you can be sure not to have any plug problems!!

With a electronic ignition type coil.... silly me
I read later that evening (after blowing it up) that the Ignitor should only be used with a ballasted coil, as used in a points type system.

Surely you mean with a non ballasted coil as I thought only the full electronic dizzys were ballasted types, if you intend replacing the Aldon unit pm me as I can tell your where to obtain one for less than the price of a lumenition kit.

You are probably right, I keep messing the two types up (in case you hadn't noticed already

Just stick to good old points - SO much less trouble.

I still prefer electronic ignition, but each to their own.
You are right about solving it on the side of the road.
Never had problems with it though
